Today’s STEAM Art was a little spooky! We learned about Edvard Munch, the painter of The Scream…..

He was a very interesting fellow to learn about. Raised by his father and told vivid ghost stories as a child he became a very dark artist. Since it is the Halloween season, I thought it was a perfect time to recreate this awesome painting.

The kiddos started by drawing an out line of the scene with pencil. We used oil pastels to color our beautiful backgrounds. After our background was done we put a black watercolor wash on them and then glued our “scream” photos to them! They turned our awesome. Kiddos did an amazing job!

Join us for our next STEAM Art where we will learn about Dale Chilhuly!!

STEAM Art ~ Vincent Van Gough

This month for STEAM Art we learned all about Vincent Van Gough! The kids learned that Mr. Van Gough painted over 900 paintings in 10 years, but only sold 1 of his paintings while alive. His most famous work, A Starry Night, was painted while Vincent was staying in a asylum. After Vincent’s death his paintings received the attention they deserved and now his paintings are worth millions!! Very interesting indeed!!

The kids then recreated “A Starry Night” using oil pastels! After they filled the whole page with color we applied a black water color wash over our “painting”. The kids then glued their artwork to a solid background! Beautiful work kiddos!!
